John Disley – The Man who got Britain Running
John Disley was co-founder of one of the world’s greatest sporting spectacles –the London Marathon. Originally from Corris, Disley represented Great Britain at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, winning a bronze medal in the 3000m steeplechase. He went on to serve as vice-chairman of the UK Sports Council, was President of the Snowdonia Society, set up Plas y Brenin outdoor pursuits centre and eventually inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame.
This documentary looked back at Disley’s remarkable career, which culminated in him, in partnership with fellow athlete and lifelong ally Chris Brasher, founding the London Marathon, leaving a unique legacy for British sport.
